The Dallas Cowboys landed themselves one of the top undrafted free agents in the 2022 rookie class. Which player could make the roster?
The Dallas Cowboys have had some of the best luck with undrafted free agents throughout NFL history. Could they strike gold again in 2022?
They just might.
The Cowboys brought in a pretty good-sized group of undrafted free agents to join the rest of their 2022 NFL Draft class with a few notable names at the wide receiver position.
That list includes former Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, who could just be the diamond in the rough for this Dallas Cowboys UDFA class.
A 6-foot-2 receiver out of Indiana, Fryfogle made big plays his habit while a member of the Hoosiers football program.

Fryfogle’s ability to win contested-catch situations is exciting, but making it as an undrafted free agent is about much more than just college production.
You’ve got to get into the right situation with the right opportunity, which the Cowboys seemingly have this offseason.
Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson are out. James Washington and rookie Jalen Tolbert are in.
There is seemingly an opportunity for a WR5 or WR6 position in Dallas and Fryfogle could be near the top of the team’s list to earn one of those spots if he can play well in training camp and preseason action.
In addition to getting in the right situation with the right opportunity, you’ve got to be able to keep up with NFL athletes as an undrafted free agent.
Fryfogle just so happens to have elite athletic metrics as well.
Ty Fryfogle is a WR prospect in the 2022 draft class. He scored an unofficial 9.12 RAS at the Combine out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 225 out of 2557 WR from 1987 to 2022. https://t.co/xynCWIIE2Z #RAS via @Mathbomb pic.twitter.com/UJqeaAwnC6

Looking at some of those numbers, it’s easy to see why this guy excels at making contested catches. He’s longer and more explosive than almost every defensive back he’s going to face.
Fryfogle had an outstanding junior campaign at Indiana in 2020, averaging almost 20 yards per reception and catching a career-best seven touchdowns.
During that 2020 season, Fryfogle put on an absolute show against the Ohio State defense:

His production took a bit of a step back in 2021 but the skill set is obviously there and now as an NFL player so is the opportunity.
Fryfogle wasn’t drafted by the Dallas Cowboys but just like many others throughout the team’s history, he’s got a shot to prove himself in training camp and preseason action and get a spot on the active roster to contribute.
Will there be enough room on the 53-man roster? If Fryfogle can do more of what he has done the last four years at Indiana, he should have no problem making it in the NFL with the Cowboys or someone else.
