Kansas City Chiefs to trade OL Yasir Durant to New England Patriots – Chiefs Wire

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to make a trade.
According to Kansas City Star beat writer Herbie Teope, the Chiefs are sending OL Yasir Durant to the New England Patriots. In return, the Chiefs will receive a 2022 seventh-round draft pick per Teope.
Durant signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Mizzou following the 2020 NFL draft. He played left tackle at the University of Missouri, but the Chiefs have most recently been playing him at guard.
Durant spent the entire 2020 NFL season on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster, active for 11 games but appearing in just two games for Kansas City. He was an emergency play at right tackle in the Week 14 tilt with the Miami Dolphins, when injuries first began to hit the Chiefs’ offensive line. He also started at right guard in the Week 17 exhibition game with the Los Angeles Chargers. In total he played 92 snaps, allowing a sack and 4 pressures, most coming in his appearance at right tackle.

While Durant was stashed on the 53-man roster for the Chiefs last season, they did a lot of work to entirely revamp their offensive line this year. It makes sense that they’d move on from Durant, given the depth they’ve achieved on the offensive line. With Laurent Duvernay-Tardif’s name also coming up in trade talks, you can tell just how deep the offensive line has become for Kansas City.
A fresh start for Durant is probably his best shot at earning some playing time. At best he would have made it to the practice squad and worked with the Chiefs’ scout team. Getting anything in return for a player who was not going to make the 53-man roster should be considered a win.
This move brings the Chiefs’ current roster count to 67 players. Be sure to track all of the roster moves by Kansas City down below.
