Lions waive TE Jake Hausmann – Lions Wire

Hours after filling the 90-man roster by signing free agent DT Miles Brown, the Detroit Lions once again have another opening. The Lions waived undrafted rookie tight end Jake Hausmann on Friday, per the NFL’s transaction wire.
Hausmann signed with the team after the draft but struggled to make a name for himself in a crowded tight end room. The Ohio State product had some potential in the H-back/backup FB role but couldn’t demonstrate enough in limited reps to stick around.
Don’t expect the Lions to use the roster opening created by Hausmann’s release on another tight end. Detroit still has six tight ends on the roster and both Brock Wright and Charlie Taumoepeau have turned in strong performances this week. The top two are set in stone with Pro Bowler T.J. Hockenson and venerable veteran Darren Fells. Alize Mack and Hunter Thedford are also competing with Wright and Taumoepeau for the remaining spot(s).
