NFL news: Denver Broncos cut quarterback Brett Rypien – Broncos Wire

The Denver Broncos have waived quarterback Brett Rypien, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.
If Rypien clears waivers on Wednesday afternoon, he will be eligible to sign with Denver’s 16-player practice squad. There’s a possibility that a QB-needy team might add him to their active roster, though.
Rypien (6-2, 202 pounds) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State with the Broncos in 2019 after he earned MWC Offensive Player of the Year honors.
After spending most of his rookie season on Denver’s practice squad, Rypien served as a backup in 2020. Rypien was an injury fill-in against the New York Jets in Week 4 last season and he led the Broncos to a 37-28 win.
Rypien completed 67.5% of his passes last season for 295 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
At the time of this writing, the Broncos have made 15 cuts. Denver needs to make 27 roster moves to get down to a 53-man roster by Tuesday.
