Former Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker has signed his rookie contact with the NFL’s Chicago Bears, and reported for the start of the team’s veteran training camp Tuesday. And with that, all eight Nittany Lions who were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft are under contract with their respective teams.
A second-round selection, Brisker’s pact is expected to be announced at about $8 million over four years. According to multiple media reports, he waited so long to sign because he was angling for more guaranteed money in the deal. Again, complete figures are not yet available. But had he not signed his contract, Brisker would not have been allowed to take part in training camp.
Chicago rookies were supposed to report to training camp in Lake Forest, Ill., Saturday, so Brisker was technically a holdout. But the full training camp did not start until Tuesday.
With the information we have so far — and we’re still waiting on the official numbers of Brisker’s deal — the young Penn State products in the NFL have made quite a financial haul. Combined, the contracts will likely approach $50 million.
Led by first-round wide receiver pick Jahan Dotson’s fully guaranteed $15 million contract, the draftees and a pair of undrafted free agents have signed contracts that are already worth nearly $50 million. That includes nearly $17 million in guaranteed money and nearly $10 million in signing bonuses. We have a complete breakdown of all the details we know so far at the bottom of this story.
But some of the figures can be a bit deceiving. For example, seventh-round picks Rasheed Walker (OL) and Jesse Luketa (LB) both signed four-year deals worth more than $3.7 million apiece. But each are only guaranteed to make about $80,000.
By comparison, fourth-round picks Brandon Smith (LB) and Jordan Stout (P) inked four-year pacts for about $4 million each. But they are guaranteed $756,548 and $697,836, respectively. All of their guaranteed money came in the form of signing bonuses, so they already have some walking-around cash.
Here is where things stood with the Penn State rookie as of July 26. We list the signed draftees first, followed by unsigned draftee (Brisker), followed by the undrafted free agents (including two who have already been cut).
