With the Penn State football team having a jam-packed recruiting calendar in June and a new wave of commitments hitting in July, it only SEEMS like forever ago that the Nittany Lions had eight players taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. In reality, it has only been about a month and a half.
On Wednesday, news broke that second-round defensive end pick Arnold Ebiketie had signed his rookie contract with the Atlanta Falcons. You can find details of the deal (at least the ones we know so far) by scrolling down for our player-by-player breakdown of the respective PSU 2022 NFL rookie contract situations.
That meant that as of this writing, fellow second-round defensive back pick Jaquan Brisker was the only Nittany Lion draftee who had yet to sign his rookie contract. We’d imagine that deal with the Chicago Bears will get done at any moment now (see his panel below for more on that).
With the information we have so far — and we’re still waiting on the Brisker situation to work itself out, as well as details of Ebiketie’s guaranteed money and signing bonus (which will likely be the same figure) — the young Penn State products in the NFL have already made quite a financial haul.
Led by first-round wide receiver pick Jahan Dotson’s fully guaranteed $15 million contract, the draftees and a pair of undrafted free agents have signed contracts that are already worth nearly $50 million. That includes nearly $17 million in guaranteed money and nearly $10 million in signing bonuses. We have a complete breakdown of all the details we know so far at the bottom of this story.
But some of the figures can be a bit deceiving. For example, seventh-round picks Rasheed Walker (OL) and Jesse Luketa (LB) both signed four-year deals worth more than $3.7 million apiece. But each are only guaranteed to make about $80,000.
By comparison, fourth-round picks Brandon Smith (LB) and Jordan Stout (P) inked four-year pacts for about $4 million each. But they are guaranteed $756,548 and $697,836, respectively. All of their guaranteed money came in the form of signing bonuses, so they already have some walking-around cash.
Here is where things stood with the Penn State rookie as of July 13. We list the signed draftees first, followed by unsigned draftee (Brisker), followed by the undrafted free agents (including two who have already been cut).
Rookies are slated to begin reporting to NFL training camps as early as July 18 (Buffalo, Las Vegas) and as late as July 26 (Carolina, Dallas, Denver, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington). The rookies are not allowed to practice at camp until their contracts are signed.
