Rams waive OLB Carlos Thompson after signing six UDFAs – Rams Wire

Since the 2018 NFL Draft ended, the Los Angeles Rams have remained busy. In addition to their continuing offseason program, they’ve worked the undrafted free agent wire heavily in the past few weeks.
After signing seven college free agents initially, the Rams announced six more signings on Monday night.
In addition to signing these six players, the Rams also waived a 2015 undrafted free agent in Carlos Thompson. He played three games last season (starting one) and has just seven career tackles in five games.
The most interesting part about these signings is the Rams’ interest in safeties. They didn’t draft any, but it’s clear they’re looking to add players at that position, which fans hope isn’t a bad sign for Lamarcus Joyner’s contract situation.
The Rams have been stingy when it comes to defensive back contracts, so there is some worry that he won’t get a deal before the season begins.

As for the Rams, the reason is different. As Pro Football Talk points out, the Rams always wait to sign their rookies in order to educate them financially before handing over a lucrative signing bonus.
