Steelers News
The Steelers announced on Tuesday that they’ve signed running back Jeremy McNichols to a one-year contract. To make room for McNichols on the 90-man roster, the Steelers released Trey Edmunds on Monday.
McNichols played collegiately at Boise State and was a fifth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017. McNichols’ stint with the Buccaneers didn’t last long, as he was released after the preseason.
The Steelers with be the ninth team that McNichols has played for in his career. He spent the last two seasons with the Tennessee Titans (2020-21) and one season with the Indianapolis Colts (2018). In 31 career games, McNichols has rushed for 364 yards and one touchdown, along with 40 receptions for 295 yards and one touchdown. In 2021, McNichols rushed for 156 yards on 41 carries (3.8 average) and had 28 receptions for 240 yards (8.6 average) and a touchdown.
McNichols will join a running back room that includes Najee Harris, Benny Snell Jr., Anthony McFarland Jr., and undrafted rookie free agents Mataeo Durant and Jaylen Warren.
Steelers Views
The Steelers certainly have a need to address when it comes to a change of pace running back behind Harris, who was the most-used running back in the NFL in 2021 in terms of snap counts, but whether McNichols can be the solution to that problem is a little harder to say.
