Defensive lineman Teair Tart was one of the Tennessee Titans’ undrafted free agent signings in 2020 and was able to make an impact during his first season, playing some significant snaps down the stretch.
Going into 2021, Tart is looking at an opportunity to see even more playing time, as he’s one of the players competing to fill the snaps lost by the departure of DaQuan Jones in free agency.
One person who is high on Tart is Tennessee’s defensive line coach, Terrell Williams, who says he is excited about the Florida International product ahead of his second season, per Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky.
“With Tart, he wouldn’t be here if we didn’t see the talent in the guy,” Williams said. “Really the biggest thing for me is seeing him continue to develop from the strength standpoint, from a learning standpoint.
“He’s another guy that I am really excited about to see what he does in training camp. He’s had really a good off-season program. When he did get in there a year ago I thought he did some really good things. So, I am really excited about him.”
What’s even more impressive about Tart’s ability to contribute in Year 1 is the fact that he didn’t have a full offseason ahead of his rookie campaign due to the restrictions in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tart’s biggest competition will come from veteran Abry Jones and 2020 fifth-round pick, Larrell Murchison. It’s also possible the Titans add to this competition before training camp, which begins on July 27.
However, it’s clear the Titans are high on the 24-year-old UDFA, which solidifies our belief that, at the very least, he’ll play a larger role in 2021, even if Tennessee decides to go with a rotation at the position.
